1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies include pixels, tags, scripts, local storage and device identifiers. In this policy “cookies” includes those technologies.
Some cookies are set by us (first party). Some technologies are provided by another organisation (third party). Anonymous analytics events are sent to PostHog through our server.
Session cookies expire when you close the browser. Persistent cookies remain for a set period or until you delete them.
2. The law
PECR regulation 6, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, restricts storing information on, or accessing information stored on, a device unless an exception applies or you have been given clear information and have consented.
Where cookies or analytics involve personal data, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 also apply. Our lawful basis for the anonymous statistical analytics described in this policy is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site, subject to the applicable statistical purposes exception and the right to object. Our lawful basis for strictly necessary cookies is Article 6(1)(f) or Article 6(1)(b) as appropriate.
There is a statistical purposes exception for cookies whose sole purpose is to collect statistical information about how a website is used, with a view to improving it, provided clear information and a simple free means of objecting are given. We use anonymous, aggregate statistics for that purpose. No individual visitor profile is created, and visitors can opt out at any time through the site controls.
3. Cookies we use
3.1 Strictly necessary
These are needed to operate the site, keep a page load secure, remember a cookie choice, or submit a contact or demonstration request. They do not require consent.
- Cookie preference record. Purpose: remember whether you have opted out of anonymous analytics. Name and provider: britannia_cookie_consent, first-party cookie set by this website. Duration: up to 12 months.
- Security or load balancing cookies set by the host, if any. Purpose: deliver the page securely. Duration: session or as set by the host.
- Form tokens, if used. Purpose: send a contact or demonstration request. Duration: session.
If you block strictly necessary cookies the site may not work properly. A demonstration request or contact form may fail.
3.2 Anonymous analytics
We use Google Analytics and PostHog to collect website statistics, such as which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive and which pages are most useful. This helps us improve the site. We do not send names, email addresses or account details to either service, and we do not use session recording or advertising profiling.
Events are sent through our server to PostHog’s European capture endpoint. PostHog may process data as our service provider under its own terms. We do not use this analytics setup for advertising, retargeting or marketing profiling.
Website analytics runs by default for statistical purposes. Marketing and advertising cookies are not used. You can opt out of marketing cookies at any time using the site controls. Your choice is recorded in the first-party consent cookie.
We do not set advertising, retargeting or session replay cookies on this site. Google Analytics may set its own measurement cookies. PostHog receives events through our server and does not set a browser tracking cookie in this implementation.
3.3 What we do not currently use
At the date of this policy we do not use:
- advertising, retargeting or conversion cookies
- social media tracking pixels
- session replay tools
- embedded video players that set marketing cookies
- Google Analytics
- Vercel Web Analytics. It is not used on this site.
If we add any of those, we will update this policy and obtain any permission required before they run.
4. How we ask you
When you first visit the site a banner explains that website analytics is used for statistical purposes. It gives you a clear option to opt out of marketing cookies. Strictly necessary cookies and measurement analytics may run without that choice.
You can change your choice later by using the cookie controls on the site, where provided, or by the methods in clause 5.
You can opt out of marketing cookies and still read the site, send a contact form and request a demonstration.
5. How you can control cookies
You may:
- use the cookie banner or settings link on the site
- block or delete cookies in your browser settings
- email info@britanniaconsultancyservice.com marked Data protection if you want us to record an objection
Browser settings differ. Blocking all cookies may also block the consent record and the contact form.
Deleting cookies does not delete personal data we already hold from a form you submitted. Use the Privacy Notice rights process for that.
6. Retention
Cookie durations are set out above. Analytics reports kept by us are retained only as long as needed to improve the site, and in any event are reviewed at least annually. Server logs are kept as stated in the Privacy Notice.
7. Your rights
You may opt out of marketing cookies at any time. Opting out does not affect statistical analytics or processing that already took place.
You also have the rights in the Privacy Notice, including access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and a complaint to us or to the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF, ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.
8. Changes
We may update this policy if we change the cookies on the site. The version and date appear at the head of this document. A material change will be reflected in the banner or by a notice on the site.
